Two weeks ago, nine members of The Racquette Editorial Board went to a national newspaper convention in San Francisco, California. We would like to thank everyone who helped make it possible to attend this convention: Student Government Association, Student Affairs, the Honors Program, Athletics, and Public Affairs.

As a result of this convention there have been and will continue to be several changes to The Racquette. Most of these direct changes are subtle design things that make our publication more attractive, but many article ideas and writing style changes were discussed on this trip and will be implemented in the future.

With the legal knowledge that we have gained attending national conventions, The Racquette is working on making sure students and the public have access to information to which they are legally entitled, such as the University Police blotter (including the names of those arrested). Readers may have noticed that we recently began covering University Police arrests in the hopes of making our readers more knowledgeable so they can stay safe on campus. We hope that this additional information, which was previously denied to us as a newspaper and as a public, will help to protect our readers.

Other sessions that staff members attended addressed covering diversity, reporting on disabilities, and writing investigative pieces, among many other topics. We hope that this will help us to better cover Potsdam and better inform our readers.

If anyone has news tips or story ideas please feel free to email them to us at racquett@potsdam.edu or leave comments on our website, www.theracquette.com.
