Can you please explain the Master's Degree graduation ceremony?
I had another question about Commencement for Master's degree recipients. When our expected participation of Master's degree recipients exceeded 200 several years ago, we set up a separate Master's Commencement. This year it is scheduled for Saturday, May 17th at 10 AM in Hosmer Hall. The ceremony includes those graduate students who completed their programs in August & December 2007 and those who will complete their programs in May 2008. Graduate students are "hooded" on stage by members of the college faculty. AND - for those receiving Bachelor's degree, we do not have a Commencement rehearsal. For those who opted to change their incandescent bulbs to more energy efficient CFL bulbs, you need to be careful when handling broken bulbs because CFL's contain small amounts of mercury. 1. Open the windows for 15 minutes before cleanup. 2. Don't use a vacuum cleaner. 3. Wear rubber gloves. 4. Pick up the larger pieces and put them in a secure closed container. 5. Scoop up the little pieces and dust using two index cards or playing cards. 6. Pick up fine particles with duct tape and then use a wet wipe or damp paper towel. 7. Put all the waste into the secure container. 8. Continue ventilating the room for several hours. 9. Wash your hands and face. (From the Maine Bureau of Remediation and Waste Management)
